"The Kickoff"
On Tuesday, April 29th 2014, the City of Yonkers kicked off the inaugural Yonkers Arts Weekend urban arts festival, marking the first time that the Yonkers creative class showcased their work simultaneously across the city over one weekend. The rest was history. The partnership involved local Yonkers artists from YoHo Artists Studios, Blue Door Art Gallery, Sara Lawrence College, the Hudson River Museum, Untermyer Conservancy and Yonkers Arts as well as the Fashion Institute of Technology's Urban Studio, and Torche' Galerie, from Belmar, NJ. In only 10 days Urban Studio and Torche' Galerie transformed 20,000 sq. ft. in a vacant industrial waterfront building into a spectacular exhibition on an unprecedented scale. The weekend was not limited to art as fashion designer Dawn Notaro, of Dawn of New York, held Fashion As Art: A Runway Exhibition, the first ever fashion show at Untermyer Gardens Conservancy culminating Yonkers Art Weekend.

Fashion Show Sunday: Dawn of New York produces the first ever fashion show at Untermyer Gardens!
Dawn of New York’s Fashion As Art: A Runway Exhibition, created history with the first ever fashion show at the magnificent Untermyer Gardens Conservancy. Dawn Notaro paid homage to the gardens rich color and beauty, the Untermyer’s devotion to human rights, the arts and the city's cultural diversity. The fashions were fabricated from luxurious textures, rich in lace, feathers and the finest stones. The event featured live performances, and fashions inspired by the height of the gardens splendor; the 1920's and '30's in New York City.
